A vegan food tour of Seattle: must-eats for plant lovers visiting the Emerald City

As the sun slowly starts to emerge, tourists are also finding their way to the Emerald City.

If you're visiting or have friends and family in town, consider taking them on a tasting tour of Seattle’s top vegan eats.  The city is a haven for the finest plant-based foods thanks to the leadership of local chefs who celebrate plants in their restaurants and nationally-recognized companies like Mighty-O, Field Roast and Frankie and Jo's.

For a grand ole’ vegan day…

Start with a Mighty-O Breakfast
For a sweet start to your day, grab a Mighty-O donut.  We love the French toast! They are a tasty indulgence without the guilt – Mighty-Os are organic and vegan.

Donuts are available citywide at Whole Foods, PCC and select coffee shops like Stumptown, but nothing beats the smell and selection at their store in Tangletown.  Afterwards, take a walk around Green Lake, and then...

Have the Perfect PCC Picnic
This is not your average grocery store, so don’t take it for granted!  After indulging in donuts and a walk, head to the new Greenlake PCC for a vegan club sandwich with deli sides.  Pop over to Kerry Park or the Sculpture Park for lunch with a view, and next…

Sip Ginger Beer at Pike Place Market
The Ginger Beer scene is booming in Seattle, and Rachel’s Ginger Beer is our favorite. Stop by their post in Pike Place Market for a tasting.  After, take a spin on the Great Wheel for unparalleled views of Elliott Bay, and then it’s off to Capitol Hill…

Enjoy a Very Happy Hour
After a late afternoon exploring and shopping around Capitol Hill, grab Happy Hour at the vegan-favorite Plum Bistro. In our opinion, the happy hour menu is even better than dinner!

Or, if it is ice cream that makes you happy, you must stop at Frankie and Jo's, their 100 percent plant-based AND gluten-free offerings will make your mouth water– and your stomach happy! When you're good and hungry again...

Options are Plentiful for a Winning Dinner
If the Marniers are in town for an evening game, tickets are a must.  Even if you are not a baseball fan, go just so you can eat at the Field Roast stand.  This local company’s vegan frankfurter and Field Burger with their new vegan Chao Cheese is the best there is and will satisfy that craving for All-American comfort food.

Or, visit one of these three popular restaurants for a gourmet vegan dinner:

  • Sutra in Wallingford offers a 7 p.m. seating each night for a seasonal multi-course vegan dinner
  • Tilth in Wallingford offers a 5-course vegan menu
  • Poppy in Capitol Hill will make a vegan thali on request.

If you’re celebrating a special occasion, splurge on dinner at Canlis. The famous Seattle restaurant will do a vegan tasting menu with advance notice.
