Media – They’re Just Like Us!
As a PR professional, when you tell someone that you work with media, it can often lead a perplexed look on the other end. The media can be mystifying for many people, but at the end of the day, we all share a lot of commonalities! Below are three similarities we took away from a recent “Meet the Media” luncheon hosted by Business Wire Seattle. Media – they’re just like us!
- They’re on social media
Whether it’s a trending topic on Twitter, a viral Facebook video or popular thread on Reddit, media need know what their readers, viewers and followers are talking about. They also use social media to monitor for breaking news and developing stories, tweets from fellow journalists and announcements from local authorities like politicians and police.
2. They appreciate brevity
Long story short, great storytellers are concise and know which details to share from the get-go, and a busy reporter appreciates when a PR pitch cuts right to the chase. Media don’t have a lot of time, so don’t waste it!
3. They use Google for quick answers and help from experts
Google handles 3.8 million searches per minute – including searches from media! Just like us, they use Google to fact-check, identify experts and find resources for their next story. With that said, there’s no time like the present to improve your website or blog’s SEO 😉
