Thanks for Giving
Thanksgiving — it’s the time for family, food, friends and football. It’s also the time to reflect on giving back to the community. As we do this, we’re sharing a few of our favorite charitable organizations and nonprofits. If you’re in need of a little inspiration on how to give back this Turkey Day, read on!
For Zaina, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (JDRF) is an organization that holds personal meaning. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 10. As a team, we give back and support Zaina by participating in the annual Beat the Bridge to Diabetes event at Husky Stadium. November is National Diabetes Month, so now is the perfect time to learn more or get involved yourself by checking out the JDRF site!
Another organization we love is VoteRunLead. Their mission is to train women to run for political office and win. They’ve seen great success so far, having already trained 33,000 women and planning to recruit another 30,000 by 2020. Shauna loves this organization because they are working to diversify our government-- something our country needs!
The Boys & Girls Club of Seattle is a local organization that provides food and afterschool care to local children throughout Seattle. If you’re looking for an in-person volunteer opportunity, they’re always seeking volunteers! Our intern, Kate, volunteers at the North Seattle location and loves having the chance to work with the organization.
We also love Ticket to Dream, a foundation dedicated to helping foster kids throughout our nation so they can just be kids. With two young kids of her own, this is one of Jennifer’s favorite organizations. There are several ways the community can support the 400,000 kids who are living in foster care in the U.S. For example, hosting your own drive to gather essential items for foster families. Ticket to Dream shares additional ways to help on its website here.
There are so many amazing opportunities to give back. Thank you to all of the nonprofits and organizations better the lives of others.
