Meet Alex!
Tell us a little about yourself.
In May, I graduated from Iowa State University with a public relations degree. I moved to Seattle two days after graduation to work as the public relations intern for the WNBA team here in Seattle, the Seattle Storm. My dad and I hopped in my 2002 Honda Civic and embarked on a 26-hour road trip to move me to what we thought would be a summer in Seattle, but has now turned into a life in Seattle. I loved growing up in the Midwest and am thankful for the values it instilled in me, but I have come to love the liveliness and excitement that Seattle has to offer.
There are a lot of PR agencies out there, why did you pick Revolution?
I picked Revolution because of the passion they have for their clients. I could tell right away that the team genuinely cares about its clients and gets excited about the stories they have to tell. They go above and beyond to produce high-quality work and I wanted to be a part of that!
What advice do you have for college graduates seeking a PR career?
The piece of advice that really stands out to me in post-grad life is the importance of making connections. I am thankful for all of my experiences but I also believe that you can never have too much experience, know too many people or have too many items in your portfolio. The more often you say yes, the more experience you gain and the more relationships you build. It takes a leap of faith to begin in the PR world, but once you get your foot in a door, opportunities will start to surface.
What is an aspect of PR that you love?
My favorite part of PR is storytelling. Since I was little, I have always loved stories. I was that little girl who begged her dad for a story before bed and that teenager who got giddy when my friends would text me, "I have a story for you!" I love that as humans we relate and connect to one another through stories and that's exactly what good PR is – creating a story that people will get excited about, relate to and want to tell again!
What do you like to do with your spare time?
My first six months in Seattle have been amazing and I am looking forward to continuing to explore the Pacific Northwest – even though the weather has gotten slightly less enjoyable. As an all-things-edible lover, I enjoy dining at new restaurants with friends, particularly ice cream and donut shops. Anything with fellow millennials, food, sports or all things combined, I’m there!
